Simplot Games are a Must!
Ric Rojas Running
Training Program: December 17,2007 – February 11, 2008
Simplot Games: February 14 – 16, 2008
Ric Rojas Running will field a competitive Track and Field team for the 2008 Simplot Games to be held Feb 14 - 16, 2008 in Pocatello Idaho. The Simplot Games is the largest indoor high school track meet in the United States, and is contested at the University of Idaho’s Holt Arena.
The Simplot Games are one of the premier events in the Nation for high school track and field athletes. We are fortunate enough to be within a day’s drive to this competition and we will see many of our local Colorado rivals at the games. Every high school athlete in our program should be on the Simplot roster! Competitors come from all over the U.S. and Canada, and over the years numerous high school world records on the fast 200m banked track.
The Games allow high school athletes of all abilities to compete with runners of the same competitive level. All high school runners are welcome. Last year, more than 50 races were contested at 800-meters, 1600-meters, and 3,200-meters. In addition, more than eight 4x800-Meter heats were contested. Information and results can be found on the www.simplotgames.com web site.
The Simplot Games experience prepares athletes for high school championship level competition, and gives the athlete a good taste for the collegiate competitive environment. Each runner will be competing in at least 3 events over the three-day period. Those qualifying for finals may run as many as 6 events.
In 2005, team Rojas won the Boys 4x800m Gold Medal, defeating Brooklyn New York’s Transit Tech. The team was comprised of Cameron Carter (Greeley West), Tyler and Travis Rasmussen (Sterling), and Anders Mavis (Boulder). Over the years numerous Rojas team members have qualified for finals in individual events, including the 200m, 400m, 800m, 1600m, and 3200m.
