his coaching career while still a senior at Los Alamos (New
Mexico) High School where he coached his cross-country team
to a third place finish in the Large School Division.
- Coached
Tony Sandoval (1980 U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials winner)
and Lynn Bjorklund (National Track and Field 3000-Meter
Champion, current Jr. 3000-meter record holder) and the
Colorado Track Club National Championship Cross-Country
Team. Has coached three qualifiers for the U.S. Women's
Olympic Trials Marathon.

the United States USAT&F Cross Country Championship in 1976.
- Ranked
in the top-ten U.S. Road Racers 1977-81 by Track and Field
News.
- Won
the 1979 Bolder Boulder, the 1975 Bay to Breakers, the 1979
Lilac Bloomsday Run, and the 1981 Gasparilla Distance Classic
15K (World Best: 43:12), 1978 Utica Boilermaker.
- Won
four New Mexico State Prep Championships in Cross Country
and Track and was ranked in the top ten Prep Milers in 1970.
He still holds the New Mexico State Mile Record of 4:12.6
(Albuquerque, NM, 1970). Best Prep Mile time of 4:11.6 (Houston,
Texas, 1970).

a Michigan HS State Runner-up at 43'.
• Over a dozen athletes in each of these fields: boys
45' + shot putters; girls discus throwers over 100', including
3 over 125' and one at 135'; boys 145' + discus throwers;
and Michigan State HS boys discus medal winners
